A new 60-minute dance work for eight dancers by Fiona Dolenga (formerly Fiona Marcotty) deals with mortality as the flip side of the eternity we each carry within us. A meditation on loss, survival, and the reassembling of the soul, the piece moves its diverse players through confrontations with themselves and each other toward a vision of resolution and promise. Magic seeps into the process in the form of unexpected juxtapositions and flights of imagination; recognition and understanding accumulate through each performer’s personal ordeal. The movement vocabulary explores expressive personal gesture, passages of languor and suspension, and urgent, sensual dancing with virtuosic ferocity.

The current ensemble is composed of eight dancers representing an unusual range of ages, backgrounds, and experiences. The performers include Nicholas Duran, Isabel Gotzkowsky, Lauri Hogan, Catherine Miller, David Parker, Carlo Rizzo, Glen Rumsey, and Jon Zimmerman. Costume design is by David Quinn, who Dance View Times reported “…is cutting, and draping, and coloring the most beautiful dance costumes in New York City.” Lighting design will be created by Kathy Kaufmann.

“a choreographer willing to take risks, willing to struggle with ideas as well as movement invention...distinctions between want, need, and love become fluid...”
Chris Dohse, Dance Insider

“...a thoughtful, imaginative modern-dance choreographer with a voice of her own...”Jennifer Dunning, The New York Times

“...strong, brilliant, strung-out dance...” George Russell, LGNY
